Eight PSAC Football Players Selected to 2008 Cactus Bowl
Eight Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference football players have been selected to play in the Valero Cactus Bowl, a Division II football all-star game which features some of the country's top seniors. The East versus West match-up will take place at 7 p.m. on Friday, January 11 at Javelina Stadium in Kingsville, Texas.
This year the PSAC will be represented by eight players from six different universities. Bloomsburg running back and Harlon Hill finalist Jamar Brittingham joins Slippery Rock offensive lineman Mike Butterworth, Kutztown wide receiver Elfren Quiles, IUP offensive lineman Rory Thomas and Edinboro tight end Kyle Witucki.
A trio of offensive players from California were also selected. Wide receivers Nate Forse and Jermaine Moye will accompany offensive lineman Tim McCutcheon.
The Cactus Bowl began as the Snow Bowl in 1994 at the Fargo Dome in Fargo, North Dakota. After its initial seven-year run, the game moved to Kingsville in January 2001. The game was played in Kingsville for six years and took a hiatus last season.
Again, NFL scouts will be in attendance at the game. At least 11 former PSAC standouts began the 2007 training camp sessions with NFL teams. That number includes current league players: Green Bay Packers long snapper Rob Davis (Shippensburg) and running back John Kuhn (Shippensburg), New Orleans Saints right guard Jahri Evans (Bloomsburg) and Arizona Cardinals guard Reggie Wells (Clarion).
