3 PSAC Women's Teams Qualify for NCAA Basketball Tournament
Three women's basketball teams will represent the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference in the upcoming NCAA Championship Tournament.
Indiana (Pa.) automatically qualified for the championship by winning the PSAC Tournament on Saturday, defeating California (Pa.) by a score of 67-63.
The Crimson Hawks earned the NCAA East Region's No. 1 seed and will host the eight-team region on March 14, 15 and 17. IUP owns a 27-4 record and enters its second-straight NCAA tournament.
Two other women's teams have earned at-large berths from the NCAA East Region Selection Committee. California (Pa.) is ranked second in the East Regional and will be making its seventh consecutive appearance in the tournament. The Vulcans (24-6) will square off against seventh-seeded Millersville (24-5) in the opening round. In the two squads' only regular-season meeting, California posted a 73-65 decision. On the same side of the bracket, No. 3 Anderson (27-3) will take on No. 6 Fairmont St. (25-6).
IUP will face No. 8 Mount Olive in the opening round. This is the first ever NCAA appearance for the Conference Carolinas champion. On the same side of the bracket, No. 5 Shepherd, also making its first NCAA appearance, will take on No. 4 seed West Liberty St.
